This course was developed for clinical and translational researchers. One of the goals of the course involved improving communication and collaboration among study team members.
The original activity in the first iteration of the course required the participants to read through a case, answer at least two of the five discussion prompts, then respond to at least two posts by other course participants.
After reviewing the data from the first iteration, I noticed that most of the participants answered the same questions. This resulted in a robust conversation for only two or three topics per module.
Solution
The solution to this problem needed to:
Align with the module objectives
Engage the participants without extending the time commitment advertised for the course
Provide an interactive experience
To accomplish this task, I designed a conversation between two study team members using a chatbot. Each module contained a different conversation based on the learning objectives and topics. The conversations incorporated at least two discussion prompts from the previous iteration.
Join the conversation...literally!
Feel free to interact with the chatbot! As a note, the prototype below is not the original course activity. It has been modified for confidentiality purposes.
